More thrifty goodness

Are you tired of my thrifty finds yet?  I'm sure that they will wind down once some of my favorite places close for the season.  I will be sad.  My mom picked me up this lamp for $3.  It needs a new lamp shade.  I do love the shade, but maybe on another lamp.  This foot stool I picked up for $2.  It's perfect for my living room.

I little organizing

Back to school feels like spring cleaning to me.  This little drawer where we keep our pens and pencils was a mess.  In the past, I would have thought that I needed to have special drawer containers.  Reality has set in and I just need a neat drawer.  I looked in my cupboards and found a couple little containers.  I put most of the supplies we don't use everyday on the craft table where they should be :)

Childhood Treasures

My mom was cleaning out her basement last week.  She told me she had something for the girls.  She gave them her tin dollhouse that she had when she was little.  They love it and I'm in love with it too!  Immediately they got out the vintage Fisher Price Little People.  I want to bottle up that memory forever.

So, imagine my surprise when I was scrolling down one of my favorite blogs and saw that my thrifty bedroom redo was featured along with some very cool projects.  If you are checking out my blog for the first time from www.tatertotsandjello.blogspot.com welcome!  So here is a little recap of our week:

I received these fabulous prints from www.dazeychic.etsy.com.  I love them.  This is the second time I have purchased prints from this lovely etsy shop.

I ran out to our garden this morning and picked as many tomatoes as I could.  I didn't know if the wind from Irene might damage our plants.  Now, what do I do with all of them?

This week looks like a busy one.  I am looking forward to sharpening all those pencil crayons and pencils.  Why does that give me such satisfaction.  Our oldest will be going to school on Friday as a SEVENTH grader!  That day might be as bad as how I felt when she went to kindergarten.  We will also be finishing up what we can on our summer list.  We still have time, right?  Hope you are all safe this weekend.

She's here

Monday we got Bruin (yes, after the Boston Bruins).  She is almost 11 weeks old.  We had been looking at adding a puppy to our family.  We now have 2 cats, 2 dogs, 3 chickens (yes, tragedy hit and we lost many of them), and 1 hamster.  Am I forgetting any?  She is everything we wanted and so much more.  House training hasn't been too bad.  We just need to remember to let her out often.  She sleeps in a crate at night.  I can't chance the chewing that I'm SURE would happen when we are sleeping.  I'll love her forever as long as she doesn't chew my laptop cord.

Before and After

Last week I was sick of my bedroom.  Whenever I decide to redecorate, I have to do it right off.  My husband had no idea that when he came home that night the bedroom would be totally different.  Luckily, nothing surprises him anymore.  Here's what I did:

Supplies:

3 cans of glossy spray paint
reflective letters from the hardware store
a free frame
scrapbook paper
tape
a chalkcloth banner
a chalkcloth marker

I only needed to buy the spray paint and the reflective lettering and numbering.  I needed this project to be cheap, but didn't want it to look that way.

I added a burlap pillow that I made for ME finally!   I love how it adds some texture to my room.  I've got plans to decorate our bedroom fireplace next......

New Lamps X 3

It all started off by a phone call from my mom.  She wanted to know if I wanted to go with her for the ride to drop off an item in town.  There just so happened to be a town wide garage sale.  I was good and only stopped at two places.  The yellow lamps came from a church sale.  They are perfect.  They just need new shades.  The other little turquoise lamp is so darn cute.  I paid a total of nine dollars for all three.  Oh, and I got a melmac dish for 25 cents.  I'm so glad I went!  Thanks Mom!

Sorry, no pictures!

I've read that you should always post a picture with a blog post no matter what.  Even if it is not related to the post.  Well, I'm here to change that!  I only have a spare couple of minutes...you see my kids are away at Grandma's house.  I've been:

~cutting out all the burlap that I have left on that huge bolt!
~working on redecorating my bedroom..pictures to come soon, I promise!
~spending time with my love
~rewashing clothes that were not fully dry in the drier from last night..nice.
~feeling the creative sparks flying!

What are you up to today?

Back to Reality!

So we went away on a week long vacation to Maine.  I feel like I have a million things going on in my brain right now.  I'm updating my shop and purging my house of the clutter.  Remember my word for this year is "simplify".  I think that vacations do that to you.  You get home and feel the need to make your house a place to relax.  I know that is how I feel.  I have lots of posts swirling in my mind right now.  But first, I need to finish unpacking and dreaming about all the sand that is in our van.

Oh, I've been updating my facebook page.  I'd love it if you liked me:)  I don't have a button yet, but my link is: http://www.facebook.com/pages/JadieCakes/178456898833479
